Youth walk emphasizing poverty alleviation
Ramanathapuram: Chennai-based S. Govind Chandra, 31, undertakes a 40-km campaign walk every day to end poverty and create a world without the poor. He recently started his walk from the former President Abdul Kalam National Memorial at Bakerumb near Rameswaram in Ramanathapuram district to Chennai.
A person who came to Ramanathapuram yesterday said:
I have undertaken a campaign walk with the flag issued by the United Nations under the 'World without Poverty by 2030' Agenda. The purpose of the walk is to donate 1 percent of one's monthly salary to lift one person out of poverty.
I am walking 40 km daily. In six and a half years, I will visit 195 countries to campaign. I am going to complete the walk at Abdul Kalam Memorial on 31 Dec 2030.
